Hurricane Isabel was one of the larger tropical storms to hit the east coast of the United States in recent years - I saved all the gvar format GOES-12 data from Dennis's GOES servers for the time of the storm and using a large sector, generated a time-series animation - combining the GOES visible and 11 micron channels and overlaying it on MODIS true color data during the day and the DMSP city lights dataset during the night. This time series animation runs from September 8 - September 20 , 2003. This still from the animation shows Isabel on September 14, 1112 UTC - since this is during the day - the image is based on the GOES visible channel data.

Fritz also requested a zoom in from fulldisk to the Isabel sector and Dennis requested an animation starting earlier and using ncep data to focus on the area near Africa to see if Isabel developed from a wave coming off Africa. So far the zoom in from full disk has been generated using the NCEP global GEOS mosaic. Since the Isabel GOES-12 time series animation starts at night, I started the fulldisk zoom from a sunlit area of the earth and rotated to the atlantic before starting the zoom:
