This new version of the GOES-8 water vapor series was completed at the end of November 2001. This visualization is made from a 5 month long series of the GOES-8 water vapor channel. GOES-8 take a full disk image of the earth every three hours so 8 full disk image are acquired each day. The data series is from 1995, which had an active hurricane season. All 19 named Atlantic hurricanes con be seen in the data. The GOES data, which was originally grayscale was made into a color animation by combining it with a cloud-free color MODIS dataset made by Reto Stockli. The MODIS background image has been remapped to the original GOES projection and airbrushed to darken Africa, the southwestern US and the mountains of Aouth America, tone down the teal colors in the Caribbean and Bahamas and remove the sharp dividing line between coastal and deep ocean water.
